Polaris Snowmobiles: What You Need to Know about the 12-10-15 Recall

Written by David Glassman
Snowmobile

Polaris Industries recently announced a recall of several models of their 2015 snowmobiles to fix a steering issue. If your machine is affected, here's how to get it fixed and ready for the first snowfall.

What's going on:

According to the Polaris website, they have "received 11 reports of cracked or broken steering pitman arms of which 8 of the 11 reported loss of steering and 3 of the 11 reported a crash." One injury was also reported, but the customer didn't report the extent of the injuries. Read the full acount of the recall.

Although no recall is ideal, we appreciate how proactive Polaris Industries is being about fixing a defect.

How to find out if your snowmobile is included:

Polaris reports they will notify all owners of affected snowmobiles, but if you want to get ahead of the crowd, here's how to find out if you need to bring your snowmobile in for repair.

If you have a 2015 Polaris snowmobile, you can call or email your VIN to our service department. We will run your VIN to see if the recall needs to be done on your sled.

To find the VIN number, look at the tunnel decal on the right side of your sled. The VIN is permanantly stamped onto the sled, while the model number is typically embossed.

How to Fix Your Snowmobile:

If your snowmobile is included in the recall, the first step is to contact an offical Polaris dealer like Tousley Motorsports. Whether or not you originally bought your sled from Tousley Motorsports, our factory-certified technicians are able to help with the repair.

Here's what to do:

1. Contact our Service Department

Start by looking up your VIN number. We will be able to run that number and let you know if your sled is affected by the recall. You can reach our Service team at 651-483-8296 (Toll-Free 1-800-TOUSLEY) between 10am - 6pm on Monday - Friday and 10am - 5pm on Saturdays. 3. Bring the necessary documentation

Our service department will be able to help you with the necessary paperwork for the recall. To make the process faster, however, please bring your purchase receipt and registration card. If you purchased your snowmobile at Tousley Motorsports, we can look-up your purchase details for you.
